What it usually looks like on a store

A product URL in the feed that now returns 404, redirects to the homepage, or is blocked from Google's crawler.

What Google says

A landing page submitted via link, link_template or mobile_link cannot be accessed by Google. Google routinely crawls landing pages and disables products whose pages are unavailable. It lists crawl errors including Page not found (404), Too many redirects, HTTP 5xx, an unreachable robots.txt file, unresolvable hostnames, and wrong URL protocol or domain.

To avoid a bad user experience, we disable products that have an unavailable landing page.Google, How to fix: Product page unavailable

How to fix it

Based on Google's help pages, in plain language:

  1. Identify and fix the error so the page is reachable from any device, location or browser.
  2. Test with the URL Inspection Tool (desktop or smartphone).
  3. If the problem is the link itself, update the product page link to a reachable URL.

What to check on your website

These are the checks we run that relate to this issue. A problem in any of them can be enough on its own.

  • Pages load for visitors: Your homepage and product pages answer with a working page (no errors, no password page, no login wall).
  • Google's crawlers are allowed: Your robots.txt doesn't block Googlebot, Storebot-Google or AdsBot-Google from your homepage or product pages.
  • Broken links in your menus: Links in your header and footer lead to real pages, not 404 errors.

Requesting a review

After fixing, you can request a website check to speed up reapproval (otherwise an automatic review happens later). Google may take up to 12 hours to review the website and no new request can be submitted during that period. Requesting a check requires a verified and claimed website.

Questions

Can a website scan fix "Product page unavailable"?

A scan finds the website problems behind it (pages load for visitors, google's crawlers are allowed, broken links in your menus) and tells you how to fix each one. You still fix them on your store and then ask Google for a review where Merchant Center offers one.
