What it usually looks like on a store

The common causes are a store password page left on after launch, a domain whose SSL certificate expired, a host that blocks unfamiliar crawlers, or a homepage that takes too long to answer.

What Google says

Listed under Google's Editorial and professional requirements. It applies when landing pages or the site domain are not accessible to customers or do not host your product pages. Google's examples are expired domains, temporary hosting outages, URLs returning HTTP errors such as 404 or 500, and parked domains.

How to fix it

Based on Google's help pages, in plain language:

  1. Confirm the domain registration is active with your registrar.
  2. Work with your hosting provider so the site is stable and online.
  3. Repair or redirect broken URLs to active pages.
  4. Make sure the domain points to a server hosting your product pages, not a parked or ad-filled page.

What to check on your website

These are the checks we run that relate to this issue. A problem in any of them can be enough on its own.

  • Pages load for visitors: Your homepage and product pages answer with a working page (no errors, no password page, no login wall).
  • Broken links in your menus: Links in your header and footer lead to real pages, not 404 errors.
  • No placeholder or template text: No lorem ipsum, default theme copy, sample products, "your store name" fields or coming-soon notices anywhere we looked.

Requesting a review

Google says that once technical fixes are live, a small ad edit or selecting Appeal starts a fresh crawl that usually finishes within 24 to 48 hours. Depending on the violation there may be extra verification steps and a limit on how many reviews can be requested.

Questions

Can a website scan fix "Site inaccessible"?

A scan finds the website problems behind it (pages load for visitors, broken links in your menus, no placeholder or template text) and tells you how to fix each one. You still fix them on your store and then ask Google for a review where Merchant Center offers one.
